AbbVie is a large research-based bio-pharmaceuticals company, formerly a division of Abbott Laboratories. AbbVie formally became an independent company in January, 2013.

For over 10 years I led commercial operations, product management and marketing functions for various AbbVie products. I worked with products marketed for the hospital, as well as specialty and primary care products.

One memorable project was leading a cross-functional team of field sales, marketing, managed care and others in a series of workshops to create 50 customized marketing plans targeting high risk and high volume geographies, significantly contributing to sales exceeding $2 billion. The initiative far exceeded expectations and resulted in recognition by senior management with a division President’s Award.

Product Launch Customer Targeting

New Hospital Product Sales Operations

A client lost patent protection for its leading product with only 30 days notice and had to move fast. First, I helped the client develop a contracting strategy to lock up their customers. Then I quickly developed new sale tools and reporting to capture client progress. We caught the competition completely off-guard forcing them to delay entry by 6 months. Our customer retention efforts protected $125 million in annual sales margin.

In preparation for the launch of a new hospital product, a client was having difficulty targeting high-value hospitals and physicians with available data. I developed a novel hospital targeting program by combining inpatient procedure data with prescription sales data to prioritize the physicians and hospitals with the greatest likelihood of success. At Morrell Insight Consulting, I know what exceptional service means, and I go the extra mile to make sure my customers are happy with my work.

When a client acquired new hospital products, they needed a new commercial reporting system. I led the development of a new system used for Sales Analytics, Sales Reporting, Incentive Compensation, and Contract Management. The project was completed under budget, ahead of schedule and without customer disruption. This project is a great example of how I keep my clients’ best interests in mind.

Market Size and Sales Potential for new Hospital Product

Every region has specific challenges with providers, payers, pharmacy, and competition. My client's challenge was to develop regional-level marketing plans. I led a series of innovative workshops for a 1000 sales representative, $2 Bn team which included cross-functional teams of field sales, home office marketing, managed care and others to produce 50 customized marketing plans targeting high risk and high volume geographies, exceeding client expectations. I helped my client define the ideal outcome for the situation, and through strategic planning we were able to achieve this goal.

A client had to rapidly respond to a new acquisition by rapidly on-boarding new sales representatives. By challenging every process, I cut on-boarding time in half for a new team of 300 Sales Representatives. The solution included hardware technology deployment, distance learning, product training, incentive compensation and CRM management. At Morrell Insight Consulting, I know what exceptional service means, and I go the extra mile to make sure my customers are happy with my work.

A client was planning to launch a new "orphan" product in the hospital market, but epidemiological data and prior market research were scarce, confusing, and led to conflicting market size projections. I closely reviewed the epidemiological data, prior research and closely analyzed the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project's (HCUP) National Inpatient Sample (NIS) in detail. I cleared up confusion regarding the hospital market for this product and answered many of the client's questions about which types of patients might be eligible for treatment of the new product.
